Behind the Black Veil During the Month of October The Victorians took life and death seriously–especially death! During the month of October, Riverside Metropolitan Museum's Heritage House will present the Victorian traditions of mourning. The house will display, in all its somber glory, the elements of Victorian death. The tradition of wearing black became prominent when Queen Victoria’s beloved consort, Albert, died. She mourned for the rest of her life. She traditionally wore black and was imbued with a sense of sorrow. Her loyal subjects followed her lead and Victorian England became a place of dark and dramatic elements that carried over to the new world. The house will be adorned in traditional mourning and Heritage House docent-led tours will include information on Victorian mourning practices. Guests will be treated to a glimpse of clothing, stationery, traditional and unique relics, a hair wreath, and the trappings of communicating with the departed such as séances, scrying, and Tarot readings. Dates: October 5-7, 12-14, 19-21, 26-28 Heritage House | 8193 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA 92504 Open Friday-Sunday | Open 12 pm - 4 pm (Last Tour starts at 3:15 pm)

RMM Receives Highest National Recognition
Gold star for the RMM! We proudly announce that we have been reaccredited by the American Alliance of Museums. Accreditation is the highest national recognition for museums, and only about 3% of U.S. museums are accredited. The RMM achieved this goal with the support of many, and the staff extends grateful thanks to all.
